Founded in 1985 by Stephen McCarthy, the Clear Creek Distillery is based in Portland, Oregon. Since the family always owned orchards since the turn of the century, the distillery’s focus was on traditional European brandy-making techniques from the finest fruit, and their pear eau de vie is among the best known in America.
But Stephen, the spirits pioneer wanted to make an American whiskey in the style of Islay Scotch but giving it his own touch, a true passion project. Using the same German pot stills, McCarthy’s Oregon Single Malt is made from the peated malted barley sourced from Scotland and distilled in Oregon.
Over the years, batches of McCarthy’s Oregon Single Malt Whiskey has received several awards, and has also received recognition as the `Best Small Batch Whiskey’ in 2004 and 2006 in the Whiskey Bible’s review. This distillery was bought over by Hood River Distillers in 2014, but Stephen McCarthy continues to be an integral part of creating the whiskey.
42.5% Abv - 700ml
Made from 100% malted barley imported from Scotland, the fermented mash is distilled in a Holstein pot still using one pass distillation. Matured for 3 years in the foothills of Mt.Hood, Oregon, this heavily peated Islay tradition of single malt scotch, spends the initial years in old Sherry casks followed by some time in barrels made from air-dried Oregon oak. A remarkably smooth whiskey for a 3 year old, McCarthy has drawn his inspiration from Lagavulin.
Tasting Notes: Inviting and youthful on the nose with notes of buttered popcorn, honey, light citrus, and wisps of peat smoke. On the palate, caramel notes, light lemon citrus and the pleasant peat coats highlights the characters along with oak spice and sweet rich honey. The finish is medium length, dry and exquisitely balanced. A great 3 year old craft whiskey that can stand its own.MRP: Rs.8200
